A delegation led by T. Ramkumar of Madasi/Madari Kuruva Parirakshana Samiti urged Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy to take steps for protecting the SC status of Madasi/Madari Kuruva.
In a representation, it said Madari/Madasi Kuruva who eked their living by sheep rearing belonged to SCs. However, the authorities were thrusting upon them the status of BCs with the nomenclature of Kuruma or Kuruba. He said Kuruma or Kurubas existed only in Telangana who were treated as BCs. Only after merger of Telangana into AP in 1956, the problem cropped up and all shepherds were treated BCs irrespective of the status enjoyed by Kuruvas .
